Muslims for Progressive Values announces
The Second Annual Al-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (Malcolm X) Khutba Competition
"Vie with one another in doing good works. Wherever you may be, God will gather you all unto Himself: for, verily, God has the power to do anything.”
Qur’an 2:148
Muslims for Progressive Values announces the second al-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (Malcolm X) Khutba Competition, a competition in sermon writing and delivery for Muslims of all stripes. El-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, or Malcolm X, as he is commonly known, was a brilliant orator who stood up for what he believed in no matter who tried to stop him. Not only did he speak out against the injustices of the world, he also fought to change the way people viewed Islam in America.
We here at Muslims for Progressive Values challenge you to stand up for what you believe in! Send us a video khutba and share your thoughts on issues you care about the most. Your khutba can be about any topic and nothing is taboo. Your khutba can be a poem, song, rap, traditional speech... whatever medium you need to express your Islam. Just to be clear, a khutba is the Friday sermon usually delivered by someone respected in the Muslim community and this competition gives you the chance to be that person.
We’re looking for young people between the ages of 12 and 22 to participate and video themselves using a digital camera, video camera or a web cam. The videos will be posted on YouTube and we can all vote on which one is the best, including you. Together we can change what everyone thinks about Islam and be the voice of the next generation of Muslim leaders to share in Malcolm X’s legacy.
To participate in the Muslims for Progressive Values Khutba Competition, please go to http://www.youtube.com/ProgressiveMuslims, watch our video invitation, and post a video response of no more than 10 minutes.
To vote on a video you like, post a response to that video with a few words of encouragement for our young brothers and sisters or add a thumbs up to a preexisting response.
Here are the official rules again:
- You must be between the ages of 12 and 22, you must be a human being, & you must be a Muslim.
- Your videos must be 10 minutes long or less.
- You can choose any topic related to Islam.
The Khutba competition is open to all Muslims regardless of ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or race.
MPV reserves the right to screen for inappropriate or offensive material. Submission to this competition constitutes agreement on the part of the participant that the submitted sermon may be posted on MPV's website and may be included in any compilation and/or publication.
