For the first time, the opinions of nine progressive Muslims are compiled into a documentary.

These Muslims express their belief in tolerance, the separation of church and state, freedom of expression, human rights, social justice for LGBT citizens and total gender equality.

In Great Britain, they are represented by Tehmina Kazi at London based British Muslims for
Secular Democracy; Taj Hargey at the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford and through the
journalism EMEL magazine columnist, Shelina Zahra Janmohamed.

In the USA, they are represented by Muslim feminist journalists and activists, Mona Eltahawy and Asra Nomani; philanthropist, Shahnaz Taplin-Chinoy; feminist Muslim song-writer and co-founder of Muslim for Progressive Values, Ani Zonneveld; feminist imam, Amina Wadud;historian and sociologist, Reza Aslan and finally, legal philosopher and human rights activist,Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na’im.

In Denmark, these ideas are represented by Demokratiske Muslimer i Danmark, the
organization that originally sponsored the documentary. In a nation that is still reeling from the consequences of the 2005 Mohammed cartoon crisis, some teachers had asked for
supplementary curriculum materials on Islam and Muslims and Ijtihad: Nine Muslims with
Progressive Values was the result.

It was distributed to high school teachers in Denmark in January, 2012.
